Sweet Little Man | Kalamazoo Newborn Photographer

Beautiful baby,
How did you come to be?
Did you fall from the sky
or the branch of a tree?

I had to chance to photograph little baby “A” this morning and he was just the cutest little thing.  I have to admit I was very nervous because this was my 1st newborn shoot that I really tired hard to get the sleep baby feel to it.  Here at my home in Kalamazoo has the best morning light for newborns and I was excited to have the chance to give it a try.  I look forward to little baby “A” growing up.

My World, Your World – Week 2: Guilt

My partner, Veronica Starr, lives in the Bay Area of California.  If I could move there right now for the next few months I would.  Anyplace warm would be nice.   I can’t wait to learn more about her and to see more of her work. Be sure to check out her blog post and see what she has to say about each them.

This week’s theme is GUILT. Wow so many things in life to feel guilty about. Let’s take a single woman first off-”Wow I ate too much today,” ”I didn’t make it to the gym today,” “I haven’t called my friends in a few days,” “My house really is a mess.”  Now add on being married and being a parent “I gave my kids McDonald’s for the 4th time this week,” “I didn’t help my kids with their homework cause I was too tired,” “My son played 3 hours of xbox today.”  Now add on being a business owner, “I didn’t find the time to edit all the photos today.”  “I should be spending more time with my husband and kids.”

Make sure you check out the amazing ladies over at 4 the Love of Focus to see some of the other diptych that are also going on.  It is usually updated on Monday's.  Here are a couple other wonderful ladies that are also taking part in this project.  Feel free to go over and check out what they have done for this week, Janet Powers Photography and Summer Safrit.

Come back next week to see how Veronica and I take on the theme of   "Obsession."

My World, Your World – Week 1: Resolution | Kalamazoo Photographer

So, I participate in a photography forum with some amazing women.  all of them own their own photography business and it’s just the perfect place for us to share business ideas, photography styles… and whatever else pops up;) so someone had a super idea, that we should partner up and do a 52 week project with a theme for each week.  Here is the run down…

Each week will have a theme or word to work with…  my partner and I will interpret in any manner we want individually… in the interim we chat and figure out how we want to present it, what consistencies we do want and just talk photog talk… editing styles, how difficult or easy inspiration comes { and goes}…  lots of fun stuff…  but we have decided that we will talk about ideas and how we are thinking about the theme, but we will not reveal the photo to each other until we are both done… meaning it’s edited and ready for posting.

So Veronica of  Veronica Starr Photography is my partner.  Check her out!!!  She is great!!! I really love the way she works with the light and her lifestyle feel…

Okay, so our theme this week was, yeah, Resolution….  I’m not a fan of making resolutions, at least not out loud… someone might hold you to it…  but I still do have a few…

Mine is on the left and Veronica's is on the right… There are so many ways that you can interrupt the word resolution and because I am not a good person at keeping New Years resolutions, I went along the line of a resolution to a disagreement or event.  This photo of both of my kids shaking hands has a lot of meaning and for any of you that have children know what it is like when your kids come to a resolution.…  Veronica took a different approach and represented a resolution she does have… to create projects {again} with her hands…   I love her use of light and colors with this photo and I wish her luck on her projects.

So we’ll have a diptych once a week on Friday and you can see some of the other participants on the main 4 Love of Focus Blog Yeah, it’s geeky fun for photogs but i think you’ll enjoy it anyway:)

Hyslop-Leos Wedding | Gull Lake Country Club

After days of panic over the possible chance of rain the day pretty much turned out perfect..  The wedding was done at the beautiful Gull Lake Country club in Richland, MI.  It started sprinkling when we photographed the guys but it stopped about 45 minutes before the wedding at which point the bride decided to move the wedding back out side.  Good move Julia!!!!.  This whole wedding party is just a riot and it has been a long time since I have laughed as hard as I did on the golf course.  The bride and groom were just amazing together and I wish you both a very long and happy life together.  Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your special day.  Here is a sneak peak of some of the shots.
